Therapy for Autistic & ADHD Adults

Therapy for Autistic and ADHD Adults and Complex Trauma Too

Unmasking, Healing, and Thriving

Are You Feeling Overwhelmed, Misunderstood, or Emotionally Drained?

You may be navigating the world with intense emotions, difficulty focusing, sensory overload, or persistent anxiety. Tasks pile up. Social interactions leave you exhausted. You might feel stuck in cycles of masking, shutdowns, or shame—wondering why everything feels so hard when you’re trying so much.

Whether you’re living with Autism, ADHD, or Complex Trauma (cPTSD)—or suspect you might be—you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.

At Love on the Autism Spectrum, I specialize in working with neurodivergent adults to help you better understand your inner world, reconnect with your strengths, and build a life that feels calmer, more empowered, and authentically yours.

What Is Neurodiversity—and Why It Matters

Neurodiversity is the understanding that human brains are wired in beautifully different ways. Autism, ADHD, anxiety, sensory processing differences, and complex trauma are all part of the broad spectrum of neurodivergence.

Instead of framing these differences as disorders to be fixed, the neurodiversity paradigm affirms that:

  • There is no one “right” way to think, feel, or connect

  • Every nervous system has its own rhythm, strengths, and needs

  • Challenges exist—but they often come from a world not designed for your wiring

In therapy, we’ll shift from internalizing blame to developing tools that actually work for you.

Understanding Autism, ADHD, and Complex Trauma

Autism Spectrum Experiences

You might feel like you’re constantly decoding unspoken social rules, masking your true reactions to “fit in,” or hiding your overwhelm or the desire to deep dive into your interests in daily interactions. You may:

  • Experience sensory sensitivities to light, sound, or touch

  • Crave routine and predictability

  • Feel deeply confused by small talk or emotional ambiguity

  • Wonder if your experience of the world is fundamentally different

Whether you’ve been diagnosed or are exploring your identity, therapy can help you unmask, reconnect, and live more freely.

ADHD in Adults

You might constantly lose track of time, forgetting appointments or deadlines, start projects you can’t finish because your attention shifts elsewhere, or feel flooded by your own thoughts, and unable to focus. Common ADHD symptoms in adults include:

  • Executive function challenges (task initiation, organization, planning)

  • Emotional reactivity and frustration

  • Difficulty following through—even with good intentions

  • Restlessness or daydreaming that disrupts work and relationships

We’ll create systems and strategies rooted in self-compassion and adapted to your brain.

Adult Complex Trauma

Complex trauma often stems from repeated early life disruptions in safety, attachment, or trust. You might:

  • Struggle with emotional regulation or internalized shame

  • Feel fragmented or unsure of your identity

  • React strongly to perceived criticism or abandonment

  • Find it hard to feel safe, even in calm environments

Many neurodivergent adults have histories of trauma, often stemming from being misunderstood, dismissed, or unsupported throughout their lives. Therapy can provide a supportive space to heal.

How These Conditions Show Up in Daily Life

Whether you’re navigating Autism, ADHD, trauma—or all three—daily life can feel like you’re constantly treading water. Common experiences include:

  • Chronic overwhelm or burnout

  • Trouble managing time or sensory input

  • Identifying as someone who is a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)
  • Anxiety in social situations or unstructured environments

  • Cycles of perfectionism and shutdown

  • Feeling emotionally “too much” or “not enough”

These struggles are real. But they are not the whole story. You also carry deep insight, resilience, and creativity.

Let’s make room for all of you.

You Are Not Broken – You Are Neurodivergent

Many clients come to therapy wondering if they’re simply “bad at life.” They’re not.

Society often demands that neurodivergent people mask, conform, and override their nervous systems—then shames them when they burn out. Therapy is a space where you can:

  • Let go of that pressure

  • Grieve what’s been misunderstood

  • Reconnect with your body, your identity, and your power

You don’t need to fix who you are. You need to come home to yourself.

What We’ll Work On Together

As a certified neurodivergent therapist (and neurodivergent human), I offer an affirming, sensory-aware, and practical approach to therapy for Autistic and ADHD Adults and those people with Complex Trauma too.

Together, we may explore:

  • Understanding and integrating your diagnosis or neurotype

  • Building executive function supports (task planning, memory, time blindness)

  • Processing trauma in safe, titrated ways

  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Navigating masking, shutdowns, and autistic burnout

  • Restoring self-worth and reducing internalized ableism

  • Creating sensory regulation and self-advocacy tools

  • Exploring gender, identity, and relational dynamics

No two clients are alike. We’ll co-create a process tailored to your needs, energy levels, and goals.

Therapy for Autistic and ADHD Adults May Include

  • ADHD coping tools like time-blocking, externalizing systems, and dopamine breaks

  • Autism-specific support for sensory regulation, unmasking, and scripting communication

  • Trauma-informed care including havening, somatic grounding, and parts work

  • Looking at signs of healthy anger or abuse
  • Building social scripts and emotional literacy (especially if alexithymia is present)

  • Self-advocacy and boundary-setting practices for relationships, work, and family

Navigating Adulthood with Neurodivergence

Life doesn’t pause for your nervous system. That’s why we’ll integrate this work into the real contexts you live in, for example:

Employment & Productivity

Let’s explore what supports you actually need to thrive, not just “survive the workday.” This might include:

  • Workplace accommodations

  • Energy pacing strategies

  • Advocacy tools for meetings and deadlines

Relationships & Social Life

Whether you’re struggling to connect, over-functioning emotionally, or hiding parts of yourself:

  • We’ll explore relational scripts that feel safe

  • Develop tools to manage rejection sensitivity or shutdowns

  • Rebuild your social life around your values, not performance

Health, Identity & Self-Worth

You deserve accessible, respectful healthcare and support. We’ll address:

  • Medical trauma and sensory overwhelm in appointments

  • Gender exploration through a neurodivergent lens

  • Reclaiming joy, rest, and autonomy

You Might Be Wondering…

Do I need a diagnosis to begin therapy?

Not at all. We can begin with your lived experiences. Diagnosis can be helpful, but isn’t required.

What if I don’t feel “autistic enough” or “ADHD enough”?

You are enough. Masking, late diagnosis, and internalized doubt are common, and we can work through them.

Will I be pushed to change who I am?

Never. This is a space for self-trust, not conformity. Together, we’ll focus on alignment, not assimilation.

The Therapy Process

Initial Consultation

We’ll start with a free 20-minute “Clarity & Connection” Zoom session to get to know each other and determine whether we’re a fit.

First Session

We’ll explore your history, current challenges, and intentions, and begin to map out what healing looks like for you.

Ongoing Sessions

This is your time. You set the pace. I offer structure, tools, and compassionate guidance as we move toward greater clarity, self-trust, and capacity.

How I Can Support You

As your therapist, I bring:

  • Certification in Autism and ADHD support

  • Decades of experience with trauma, attachment, and identity work

  • Lived neurodivergent experience

  • Deep commitment to relational safety and nervous system regulation

This is not clinical distance. This is real presence.

You Don’t Have to Be Stuck

You’ve likely spent your life doing your best to function, please others, and hold it together. Maybe now it’s time to stop performing, and start becoming.

Let’s explore who you are underneath the survival strategies.

Take a breath.
