Love on the Autism Spectrum FAQ’s

Love on the Autism Spectrum FAQ's

What is the Typical Per Session Rate?

Rates are $280 per 50-minute individual or couples session.

There are also a limited number of sliding-scale client sessions, in which the session rates are reduced based on your annual gross income. Currently, there is a waiting list for these reduced-rate session opportunities.

If you would like to book a Couples Retreat/Intensive, I will provide you with those rates separately.

You can also ask me what your estimated services will cost; I provide that in a Good Faith Estimate.

This fee includes our full 50-minute session time and the ongoing review of our conversations in the client portal.

Additional services, including support letters, client research, and consultations with other healthcare providers, are prorated in 15-minute increments.

There is a 48-hour cancellation policy.

If you cancel your session with less than 48 hours’ notice, you will be charged the full fee for the session.

What about Insurance?

I accept payment via Credit Card on the online Simple Practice portal.

Currently, I do not take insurance.

Because I am a “self-pay” provider, you can decide on our sessions’ frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly). As well as the total length of time you want to be in therapy.

You’ll tell me when it’s time for you to “graduate” or end our therapy together, as many of the goals that you want to achieve will be fulfilled.

As your therapist, I intend to see you living with presence and love in the world!

8 Essential Questions to Ask Your Insurance Provider:

Unsure about what your insurance covers? Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered. Call your provider, get the full name of the person you are speaking to over the phone, and ask these eight important questions:

1. Does my policy cover out-of-network outpatient psychotherapy?

2. If yes, what is the reimbursement for out-of-network psychotherapy services for the following CPT codes?

  • Individual therapy codes:  90834-95     This is for 38 to 52 minutes of therapy services via telehealth (Video)

  • Couples or family therapy code  90847-95   This is for 26 plus minutes of therapy services via telehealth (Video)

3. Is there a maximum limit on psychotherapy sessions that will be reimbursed?

4.  Will the insurance company reimburse you for the diagnosis codes discussed with your therapist? Common examples below:

  • Adjustment Disorder    F43.20

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)  F84.0

  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)  F90-

5. If your insurance reimburses a percentage of the session cost, what is that percentage and the maximum cost per session allowed?

6. Is a medical doctor’s or psychiatrist’s referral or pre-authorization required? If so, who should be contacted for pre-authorization?

7. Does your insurance have a deductible? If so, how much is it? Is it a yearly deductible? And how much of it do you have left?

8. How do you file claims online? What is the address of the claims office? And to whom should claims be addressed?

What is the Difference Between Therapy and Coaching?

Coaching and counseling are both valuable for personal growth and wellness, but they have distinct characteristics that set them apart. Understanding these differences can help you determine which approach is best for you.

Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy addresses symptoms that impair your daily life, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or addiction. The goal is to resolve these symptoms to function at your best. By working with a licensed therapist like me, you can gain the strength and confidence needed to make significant changes and improve your circumstances.

To become a therapist/counselor, rigorous education and training are required. This includes specialized coursework in areas like couples counseling and government licensure. In addition, I have extensive supervised training, ensuring I am well-equipped to help you overcome your challenges.

Coaching:

Coaching, on the other hand, focuses on helping individuals and couples improve their lives. It assumes that no diagnosable disorders are present or that any existing disorders are being separately addressed. Couples coaching can be especially effective in enhancing relationships and achieving specific goals.

Regulation of coaching is not as strict as psychotherapy, but many certification programs are available. Private companies or non-profit organizations offer these programs. While anyone can legally call themselves a coach, having a certification demonstrates a commitment to professional standards. I have two certifications in coaching, one from Martha Beck as a Life Coach and the other from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology as an Advanced Certified Integral Coach.

Understanding the Differences in My Practice:

While psychotherapists can provide coaching, coaches cannot provide psychotherapy without the necessary licensure.

I am certified both as a psychotherapist and coach. However, it’s essential to have the proper psychological training to determine whether coaching or counseling is appropriate for each individual.

Ethics dictate that coaches cannot diagnose or provide therapeutic services for individuals with mental health issues. I will assess your needs in the first session and ensure you receive the appropriate level of care.

Please note that my services comply with the laws in the state of California. If you reside outside California, you can still receive coaching services, but not psychotherapy.

How Do We Get Started?

First, complete the online form on my Contact page.

Once I receive that from you, I will send you a link to my online scheduling program.  Then you can book a FREE, no strings attached, 15 to 20-minute Zoom session with me.

During our time together, you can tell me more about you and your challenges and share some of the things you’ve tried up until now. Please tell me about the things that were big wins and the flops that left you feeling more frustrated.

You’ll talk, and I’ll listen.

During this time, you can also ask more about me. As well as my specialties, the modalities I use, and any additional questions that you have about working together. And if you have more questions, please ask them during this time.

Then, if I think we’re a good “match” for each other and you’re interested, we can schedule our first therapy/counseling session together.

I intend to help make getting started in therapy simple and easy for you.

I remember the appointment with my first therapist in 2001. I was excited to start making positive changes in my life but also anxious about the therapy process. Many people experience the benefits of psychotherapy very quickly! Because they can finally be seen for who they are and be listened to, that’s exactly what I want for you, too.

Where Will We Meet?

All of our therapy and coaching sessions will be conducted via Zoom, a secure video telehealth platform. I lead our sessions from my private and secluded office, free from interruptions and disturbances.

I invite you to be in a private space where you feel safe and free of distractions.  I also encourage you to have water, a box of tissues, and a blanket available. Some people prefer to have their pets nearby, which is fine unless they are very active or noisy.

Please don’t schedule our sessions while you are driving or as a passenger in a vehicle that lacks privacy.

I will provide you with access to my Simple Practice, a secure client portal, so that we can communicate securely and confidently between sessions. Therefore, we will eliminate potentially insecure forms of communication like emails and texts.

I ask you to please keep our communication outside of our session times to a minimum unless it’s an emergency. Your forms are securely housed within this portal; nothing is saved in paper files.

The portal is very simple, and even non-techy clients like its ease and accessibility.

In addition, you will also be able to schedule and reschedule your appointments in the client portal, which makes scheduling a breeze for both of us.

What Can You Expect From Me?

I am Fiercely Compassionate. I want to see you and understand you. I want to give you the empathy you deserve, especially for all the challenges and hardships you’ve already endured with Autism, ADHD, or Trauma in your life and relationships.

I am Light. I have an incredible gift of seeing the light in every single person. And even if you can’t see it, I can. I like to play and have fun during our time together; I know there is great healing and freedom in laughter.

I’m a Teacher Archetype. I will share innovative tools and strategies with you so you can do them on your own and teach them to others, too.

I am a Fire-Starter, Illuminator, and Torch Bearer. I want to help you see your negative thought patterns and behaviors, bring them out in the open, and then help you transform them into radiant joy.

I Believe in Walking My Talk. I am a therapist/counselor/coach who also has a therapist, and I’ve had a therapist on my team for myself for over twenty years. My therapy practice is built on the strong values of Integrity, Transparency, Authenticity, Openness, Curiosity, and Transformation.

I’m Eager to Watch You Soar!
